Parliamentarians in no hurry to debate on ISI role in Pak politics

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentarians could not finalize the time frame and procedure for open debate on ISI role in Pakistan politics, drone attacks , war on terror and the Raymond Davis issue and have referred the matter back to the Prime Minister.
Sources told that representative of all Parliamentary parties participated in the House Business Advisory Committee meeting held at the Parliament House on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi.

The members unanimously agreed that it is vital to bring the role of establishment in the country’s politics before the public however former information minister Qamar uz Zaman Kaira was of the view that the role of ISI should not be debated openly as that could jeopardize the performance of this vital nation security institution.
However PML-N member Tanvir Hussain opposed the suggestion and said that public has the right to know the role of ISI in drone attacks and Raymond Davis issue.
Sources told that Naveed Qamar and Khurshid Shah were of the stance that this matter is highly sensitive but since PM is ready to debate the role of ISI in Parliament therefore such a procedure for its debate should be adopted so that it does not affect our national security. Hence it was agreed that Parliament would not act in haste in holding the debate on ISI role and the matter would be sent to PM for formal approval and the time frame and mode of debate would be finalized with the approval of PM
Sources further told that parliamentarians are also afraid to openly debate on ISI role and thus are delaying the issue. IN view of this situation it seems highly unlikely that the debate on this vital issue would be held during the current session
